Parkinson’s Care At Home
Parkinson’s – sometimes referred to as Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson's Care
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. It’s caused by some of the nerve cells in the brain not functioning which means they don’t produce enough of the chemical dopamine which is a neurotransmitter and lack of this chemical affects movement.
Parkinson’s is currently the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.
According to Parkinson’s Organisation, there are over 40 symptoms of Parkinson’s. But the 3 main symptoms of Parkinson’s are a tremor (shaking), slowness of movement and rigidity (muscle stiffness). Other symptoms can include dyskinesia (involuntary movements) and freezing.
Parkinson's Support and Management
Like other significant health conditions, being diagnosed with Parkinson’s can feel overwhelming if you don’t have the right information or support. Usually after diagnosis you will be allocated a Parkinson’s nurse, who are specifically trained and very experienced in this condition. Your allocated Parkinson’s nurse is there to support and guide you from the onset of diagnosis to the progression of the condition and the impact it has on your mobility and ability to manage everyday activities. Part of that support includes ensuring that you are on the right medication and the right dosage as the condition progresses.
There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s but there are many ways to manage symptoms and to live well with this condition.

We tried other companies first but there were so many changes, and it all became too much for Mum, not knowing who would be there to help her. Since we chose Live in Care, she’s been so much happier.
Live in Care – thank you, thank you, thank you! You’ve changed my parents lives; Mum is less stressed knowing Dad is cared for and they can carry on living at home together.
Moving to live-in care at home was such a big decision for the family and we wanted to make sure we got it right for Mum and Dad. From the first instance when we made the call to Live in Care it felt right, their understanding and empathy was evident, and they gave great advice too. We’re so pleased we made the right decision, and our parents are the happiest they’ve ever been, safe at home with wonderful care.
It’s not just the everyday care that makes such a difference to Mum’s life, it the little things that are always thought of. Mum has been out of her home more in the last 6 months than she has in the last 6 years. Seeing the photos of her smiling face full of laughter, tells us how much she’s enjoyed the company, activities, and outings. We definitely picked the right company.
I’m a nurse and I couldn’t have provided the care, comfort and support my father needed in his last days of his life without the live-in carer. She was so professional, skilled, and kind and this helped to ensure that Dad was comfortable and peaceful in his last few days. Nothing was too much trouble.
