Cancer Care At Home
When you or a loved one is initially diagnosed with cancer it can cause great trepidation and the first reaction can often be foreboding. It’s natural for a diagnosis to affect you and your loved ones emotionally and you will be supported by a fabulous team of professionals throughout your diagnosis and treatment. A lot can depend on the type of cancer, where it is located and how early it has been diagnosed, all of which will affect the treatment plan and the need for care and support.
What is cancer?
Cancer is a condition where cells mutate in a specific part of the body grow and reproduce uncontrollably. The cancerous cells can invade and destroy surrounding healthy tissue, including organs. Cancer sometimes begins in one part of the body before spreading to other areas. This process is known as metastasis.

Treatment for cancer
Your treatment depends on where your cancer is, how big it is, whether it has spread, and your general health. There are different types of treatment you might have. Understanding your treatment and the side effects can help you to cope and it’s good to discuss the treatment available with your oncologist and the possible side effects. Cancer treatment has progressed and improved significantly over recent years.

What are the 5 Pillars of Cancer Treatment?
- Surgery: The first pillar of cancer treatment is surgery.
- Radiation: Radiation therapy, or radiotherapy, has been an effective cancer treatment since the late 19th century
- Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy has become a cornerstone of cancer treatment and has been used in various forms.
- Targeted Therapy: This innovative approach involves the use of drugs specifically designed to block or inhibit mutated proteins or pathways
- Immunotherapy: It involves the use of substances or treatments to activate and strengthen the immune system

Mum’s carers have become part of the family, they’ve gotten to know Mum and her needs so well and are exactly what the family were hoping for and more.
Dad was quite tearful today when Corina left, she has been a wonderful carer and such lovely company for him. Dad said she felt more like family rather than a stranger within a few hours of meeting her. A real sweetheart
Thank you so much, you have saved our lives!
It’s not just the everyday care that makes such a difference to Mum’s life, it the little things that are always thought of. Mum has been out of her home more in the last 6 months than she has in the last 6 years. Seeing the photos of her smiling face full of laughter, tells us how much she’s enjoyed the company, activities, and outings. We definitely picked the right company.
Thank you, Live in Care, for enabling Mum to spend her last day at home, where she wanted to be. This has been a great comfort to us all and we couldn’t have asked for better care in the last few weeks.
